I was happily pumping away yesterday, when suddenly there was no suction. The light was on but suction was gone.
Now I'm packing it to send to a Mr. Tan, the authorised service person in Malaysia and enjoy my one-year warranty on the pump.
Hope it comes back all brand new.
Miss it already :-(

I'm happy to report that my Ameda came back good as new and I have to tell you this, it is my number one breastpump at the moment.. ^_^ getting it fixed was fast and easy, I was very pleased and relieved..!

ReplyDeleteOMG, Alhamdulillah i found you! i am looking around for opinion on ameda and fs. so grateful to have found an expert :) mother of a 4 m/o baby girl, im currently using medela swing. having tried spectra 3 and finding it painful, swing is great as it is gentle and portable. however, my only (big) problem is im taking too much time pumping. i usually take 20-30 min on each breast, hence i need to sit down for close to an hour for each pumping session! so i bcome kurang rajin and kais pagi mkn pagi i.e supplying fresh milk to baby sitter everyday (no or limited stock) u can imagine how stressful it can be.
p/s: each session tu dptlah 6oz.
hence my desperate search for a double pump.(and i can buy only once as swing pun baru pakai for 4 months n its not cheap!)
of course i have my heart set on the mother of all pumps FS hehe. but i heard ameda can also be as good. can imitate 2 phase, and light at 0.5kg tho not as cute. i hope you can clear my mind on some of the issues:
1. is it true we can manually copy the 2 phase of medela? is it cumbersome? can we like save the setting or something? i do need the stimulation process.
2. does it feel as gentle as medela? from my amatuer eyes i think medela has a unique vacum design and process which makes the suction gentle.
3. is it true that it is as light as FS?and not as bulky as it looks. ahh FS is just as big as the palm..
4. this is not a comparison question but i need to know too : i usually need to massage/picit2 my b for a faster flow. i think this is possible for FS (assuming the clips are not too leceh) is it possible using ameda? theoritically maybe so with accesories like pumpinpal handsfree but practically is it easy? i.e have u tried it before? i can imagine myself doing the static chicken dance trying to massage haha.
5. due to my b size (im not sure big or small) but i prefer using pumpinpal cup. can i use it on ameda?
6. not so important to know but still : can bumble bee bottles fit ameda bp? medela can.
7. lastly, why do u prefer ameda over FS?? :) is ameda really as good? any downside?

Anyway, I'd be happy to answer all of your questions, insyaallah, and hope you find them helpful.
Of course the best way of choosing a breastpump is to try them on yourself but who has the luxury? Hehe. Let me maintain that this is my personal opinion and yours could differ.
Having said that, i think Medela Freestyle is hugely overrated. (alamak ramai hardcores marah kat i ni nanti..hehe) It's super cute yes, like you say, and you don't need to find AA batteries to pump everywhere unlike Ameda. Tapi macam I, I pump dlm keta je, using the power inverter so memang tak payah batteries. Unless of course, you have no other power means other than batteries, you must buy the FS sebab bangkraplah you nak beli battery AA tu every time kan.
yes, single pumping is too time consuming and it will even be difficult to maintain supply.. it has to be double electric or none at all for me really. Btw, are you working? Also btw, 6 oz is a lot. i'm happy for you!
1. Ok, yes you can have both the stimulation and expression phases in ameda. cuma tak secanggih fs, it comes in dials tapi bendanya sama je. no you dont really need the memory, i don't use it pun with my fs.. i tukar je, ikut sesedap rasa. just change speed of suction and voila!
2. suction wise - sama best, in fact, this is strictly my opinion, with the ameda, i rasa lebih `puas'. hehe. don't ask me why.
3. weight and size only slightly more than fs, not significantly diferent kalau dah masuk beg tu. certainly not as heavy as spectra 3.
4. owh.. i tak pernah la pulak try massage breast i but yeah, i guess with the handsfree options it will be easier. but guess what, my fs handsfree set tu terperuk je dalam beg tu diam-diam, i find them too leceh to use! i much prefer using my nursing bra je and clip them on.. voila, no further accesories required.. hehe
5. yup, defeinitely can use pumpinpal on ameda. i use it myself. kt fs, susah skit, selalu tercabut. dgn ameda, mcm muat elok
6. kalau tak silap all the bottles are same size opening. tapi kenapa you nak guna botol lain untuk pump? higher risk of unscrewing itself and falling off kalau guna any other brand other than its own. lepas pump, you just transfer lah kan wherever :-)
Lastly, for the massive price range, ameda fares lebih kurang sama je dgn ameda, serious. so why spend more? the only reason how fs is better is when you kena pakai battery hari-hari, then you get fs. tapi dari segi suction, portability, sama. nak pasang parts pun lagi senang dan kurang than fs and more durable. Ameda lebih senyap, fs bising. Ameda ada tempat letak bottle, Fs xde (this is helpful you know, kdg2 tertumpah botol2 tu sebab terlanggar)
Hmm.. apalagi ek.. tu jela yang i ingat buat masa ni.. tapi if you ask me, i sayang both sebenarnya.. huhu.. output susu sama byk je.
But if you ask me, suction yang paling best sekali is mamivac lactive, the softest and geli-geli suction ever.. the best i've tried so far. susu pun sama banyak.

Thank you so much for your kind prompt reply. hehe thanks to yr advice im now a proud owner of an ameda bp :) its great! i can pump for less than half an hour now to get 6 oz. however me being human, ada je yg worry skit. i had to work harder i feel, to get the 6 oz. picit sana sini. coz i find the simulation phase i.e the short cycle is not as short as medela swing, so even after waiting a while the simulation is not enough. so when i change to longer cycle for expression it doesnt come out as much. hehe im not so sure really. i think i just need more practice. ah also i think ameda's suction is not as much as medela, or m i not setting it up correctly, what do u think? as of now i have to use max suction all the time n still rasa tak 'puas'. thanks!
ReplyDeleteoh wow! so you've bought it! yes yes yes that's right.. your body needs to get used to it, give it a little time.. suction x puas? hmm.. compared to swing ye? i think i've heard before yang swing dgn PISA sama suction dia, kuat, tapi freestyle lembut sebenarnya. fyi, i use suction half on ameda but full blast on freestyle baru puas.. oh boy, i hope you'll get better results soon, me struggling with supply myself although i have the best pumps in the world! keep writing!

hi, so sorry for the late reply. hm since last week i was kinda satisfied with what i have, pumping with ameda at the office and swing at home. but then lately milk supply has consistently been 'urgent', having to send milk to nursery during lunch time everyday, due to lower milk supply (4oz instead of 6 at each session) and also baby consuming much more than usual. pretty stressful,i tell u. but the bad thing is, each time i pump nowadays, it seems like i couldnt empty my breast. it is still heavy (u know what i mean). ameda can be quite fast, but towards the end of pumping session when milk is trickling slow, it always get painful. maybe coz i use max suction which feels good at let down. anyway, i cant help comparing it with medela's.. :( swing is really good at emptying..
ReplyDeleteyou're so right, to each her own. i guess everyone's B is different, hence it is very important to try it out first before purchasing. actually i did try itout first at the shop but ameda's demo set is broken and so the suction feels very soft. but i was so confident of yr review i didnt blink twice when i say i'll take it even without trying.
hehe all that said, i dont blame u at all. anyway if i didnt get ur advice pun,i most likely will end up with FS which might be worse. coz it seems like i need a strong suction.
i now have a new obsession - PISA!! searching for a shop with a demo set..
and ill come with a full B and try! hehehe..
p/s: u know of any bad reviews on PISA? eventho syg, i need to let go of my ameda too, if u know anybody who needs em.
